THE LAST DAYS
Text: 2 Timothy 3:1-5
Introduction: The terms the last days, latter times, time of the end, and the last time are used throughout the Word of God to indicate a period prior to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Bible is very clear concerning many things that will happen in the last days.
The political and economic conditions of the last days are foretold. The technological and scientific achievements are set forth.
A decline in a moral and spiritual life in the last days.
Everything seems to be building up. The whole world stands in anxiety, harassed by fear, asking the question, “What will happen next?”
While are eyes are focused on world conditions, distress of nations, international conflict, political issues, something is happening in the spiritual world of which most people are unaware.
Let’s look at 3 things that is happing that some don’t even realize.
A TIME OF APOSTASY.
a·pos·ta·sy abandonment of one’s religious faith, party, a cause, etc
The New Testament declares that there will be general apostasy in the last days.
2 Thess. 2:3
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
This does not mean backsliding. means abandonment of faith.
1 Tim. 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
This attack comes from inside the church not outside.
Some Bible colleges and some pulpits of our day, The principles of God’s Word have been undermined.
The old songs of the blood have been called foolish hymns.
Some church officials have denounced the Virgin Birth, atonement, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and His second coming.
This generation has rationalized faith until it has taken out of the gospel every vital quality and miracle-working power.
Deep spirituality has been changed for vague religiousness, without a born-again experience with God.
2 Tim. 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
- AN INCREASE IN FALSE RELIGION.
False Religion – When a religious organization condones immorality within your ranks, that religion is false.
Widespread ignorance of God’s Word also accounts for the rapid growth of false religion.
In this age of intellect and reason when the world is so smart. Yet men are ignorant of the truth.
2 Tim. 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
Verse 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Tim. 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
The time of spiritual famine is here.
They was a time that the Bible was taught in most churches. Those that attended had a Bible back ground they had respect for God.
Instead of the Word of God being preached, taught, read and believed, it is being criticized in schools, pulpits, and colleges and even in the homes.
The Word of God upon which our nation was founded has now become an offence to the people.
We have better make sure what we read and listen to, is of God.
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man,
but the end thereof are the ways of death.
What is true religion?
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
We must have a personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ.
We must understand there is only one way to get to heaven.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
3. INCREASED FORMALITY OF CHURCHES.
Formality condition or quality of being formal; accordance with required or traditional rules, procedures, etc.;
a thing that isdone simply to comply withrequirements of etiquette, regulations, or custom:
It is true that the churches are filled with activity, but where are these active people on prayer meeting night?
It takes a party a social to attract some people to church.
No wonder Paul said.
2 Tim. 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
The form of religion increase, while religion itself becomes powerless
The church Laodicea is the picture of some of today’s churches.
God’s charge was that they were “neither cold nor hot” I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Could it be possible that you are going through the motions of religion, and living under the shelter of the church?
Are you ready to meet Jesus?
